A BETTER BEAR BOX
QUALITY IS COMPARISION
PROUDLY MADE IN THE USA
What makes us a “Better Bear Box”?
At Duck River GCE, we don’t just build bear boxes — we build protection you can count on. Every enclosure we make is crafted to do two things exceptionally well: keep bears safe and keep your property secure.
From our home base in Columbia, Tennessee, we design, fabricate, powder coat, and install every custom steel bear-resistant garbage enclosure ourselves. That means no middlemen, no shortcuts — just solid craftsmanship backed by years of experience in construction and metalwork.
Built to Endure
Each of our GCE units starts with heavy-gauge steel, precision-cut and welded for structural strength. We finish every piece with a durable powder coat that resists rust, scratches, and weathering — critical in mountain environments where rain, snow, and humidity take a toll.
Our hinges, latches, and hardware are industrial-grade to stand up to years of use and abuse — not only from curious bears but from daily human handling. The design allows for easy operation and maintenance without sacrificing toughness or security.
Designed for the Real World
We understand what works and what doesn’t in bear country. That’s why our boxes are engineered to fit standard 32-gallon trash cans while still meeting or exceeding regional bear-resistance standards.
Each enclosure is carefully balanced between function and form — strong enough to deter a determined bear, yet practical and accessible for residents, rental properties, and park facilities.
We also offer personalized upgrades like multi-can configurations, reinforced mounting bases, color-matched finishes, and logo options — because every location has its own needs and aesthetic.
A Better Value, Built on Purpose
We believe quality should outlast trends. Our bear boxes aren’t mass-produced; they’re crafted with purpose. That’s why they cost more upfront — but they’re designed for decades of performance, not just a few seasons.
That’s what makes a Better Bear Box. It’s an investment that pays off through:
- Fewer replacements or repairs over time
- Increased property safety and compliance
- Protection for wildlife and peace of mind for residents
Our customers see their bear boxes not just as equipment — but as a commitment to their community and the environment.
How it’s made…
Every Duck River GCE bear box starts with one goal — to build a product that lasts for decades in the toughest outdoor conditions.
Each enclosure is made from 14-gauge heavy-duty steel, precision cut and welded for maximum strength. We don’t just build for looks — we build for real-world abuse, from heavy weather to determined wildlife.
The surface is coated with our Polyarmor oven-baked finish, a durable powder coat that protects against corrosion, scratches, and graffiti. It’s tough enough to handle years of rain, snow, and sun without fading or peeling.
A pitched roof design keeps water and snow from collecting on top, helping the box stay cleaner and last longer. Every unit is assembled with structural-grade pop rivet hardware, chosen for its superior grip strength and rust resistance.
The result? A rugged, low-maintenance bear box built to protect your garbage, your property, and the bears that call this region home.

The Door…
A bear box is only as strong as its door — and that’s where most designs fall short.
At Duck River GCE, we spent countless hours engineering a door that’s as dependable as the box itself. Here’s how we made it better:
-
Precision-Built “Picture Frame” Design
Each door is built around a rigid picture-frame structure and a 14-gauge black steel front panel. This combination gives you unmatched strength, stability, and smooth operation every time you open or close it. -
Weather-Resistant Stabilization
We added reinforcement and door stabilizers to prevent flexing, sagging, or warping — problems that often appear in lesser designs after years of exposure to Tennessee’s changing weather. -
Built for Everyday Use
For dependable daily operation, each unit features custom zinc-plated steel slam latches paired with stainless steel striker plates. The result is a solid, reliable closure that’s easy for people to use — but impossible for bears to defeat. -
Added Kick Protection
A stainless steel lower door kick plate protects against impact and adds another layer of security, keeping the seal tight and the structure strong. -
Safety Comes First
Every GCE door includes an interior release latch — an essential safety feature that prevents anyone from accidentally being locked inside. Many competing products skip this detail, but for us, safety isn’t optional.
The door is the heart of the enclosure — and we built ours to last. Strong, stable, and safe, it’s a system that performs year after year, rain or shine.

The Mounting System…
A bear box is only as strong as what it’s built on. That’s why we’ve spent years perfecting a secure, simple, and long-lasting mounting system that makes installation straightforward for our customers — and rock-solid for the long run.
Our enclosures are anchored using rebar-reinforced, pier-based concrete pads, each one engineered for superior strength and stability. We use precise post-hole drilling and reinforced supports to ensure your enclosure stays level, sturdy, and unaffected by shifting ground or extreme weather.
Every unit is designed for versatility, giving you the option to mount on either concrete or steel pedestal bases, depending on your site’s needs.
Pedestal Mount Option
For areas that require elevation or special drainage, we offer a pedestal mount system that lifts your bear box 12 inches above ground level. This setup includes a concrete mound base and additional support components for a secure, elevated installation.
The pedestal option improves accessibility, prevents water buildup, and meets location-specific requirements — all while maintaining the same clean, durable look that defines every Duck River GCE product.

The perfect options for you…
Every property is different — and so are your needs. That’s why Duck River GCE offers a range of custom options to make your bear box as functional and personal as possible.
Here’s how you can make it your own:
-
Trash Pickup Indicator Flag
Never guess again when it’s time to empty your cans. Our optional indicator flag lets you know when trash collection is needed. You can mount it on either the hinge or latch side — whichever works best for your setup. -
DIY Installation Option
Want to handle the setup yourself? Choose our DIY installation kit, complete with step-by-step instructions. It’s designed for a smooth, simple installation process — saving you time and labor costs without sacrificing strength or safety. -
Reflective Numbering for Visibility
For easy identification and a clean, professional look, we offer 4-inch reflective stainless steel numbers. They can be mounted on the door, front panel, or any side of your enclosure for high visibility — day or night. -
Flexible Mounting Systems
Our enclosures work seamlessly with both concrete and steel pedestal bases, offering you flexibility based on your site conditions. Whether it’s mounted flat or elevated, the design integrates cleanly and securely. -
Custom Color Finishes
Add a touch of personality with our signature powder coat finishes. Choose from rich, natural tones like Forest Green or Chocolate Brown — colors that blend beautifully with wooded, mountain, or residential surroundings.
No matter how you customize it, every Duck River GCE bear box is built for the same purpose:
to protect your property, preserve wildlife, and look good doing it.
